x16 R2, BIOS update 1.14.0, power button flashing
I installed this BIOS update earlier today on my Alienware x16 R2, and this evening, when I plugged in the charger, the power button immediately started flashing steadily in yellow. Naturally, I assumed this meant something had changed, so this now means it's charging. I attempted to locate documentation for this, but I couldn't find any. Everything I saw indicated that any flashing yellow light (although this did not match any of the listed patterns) meant there was a power supply or battery problem. I still have support because I recently purchased this laptop. So, I called Dell and explained what was happening, including the fact that I had installed the new BIOS update. For the next hour, they had me performing every troubleshooting step they could think of to check the power supply and battery, even though every diagnostic test came back indicating no issues, and every reset they had me do did not stop the flashing. This went on until they had me open the laptop, unplug the battery, and run it off the charging cable. This is when the power button turned solid yellow, which usually means it's unplugged. They then had me plug the battery back in, close the laptop, and try a few more things before declaring that the battery was bad and needed to be replaced, along with the motherboard, and they're sending me a shipping box. About 20 minutes later, when the battery's charge reached 100%, it stopped flashing. I have since tried unplugging the computer for 5-10 minutes to drop the charge slightly, then plugging it back in. Each time, it starts flashing again, and it stops flashing once it reaches 100%. I sent a follow-up email to support stating this. They are now telling me to hold onto the box when I get it and see if the "problem" returns. Has anyone else had this "issue?"
