x15 R1, can I use a 330w Power Supply?

Alienware x15 R1

Alienware x15 R1

Hi my Dell 240w power supply recently died and I was looking at the 330w supply in the Dell store. dell-330w-74mm-gan-slim-ac-adapter

I realise the x15 is not on its compatibility list but I would like to know if anybody has used this on their own x15. Is it likely to damage the laptop if I used it?

Yes, you can use a 330W power supply with your Alienware x15 R1, even though it’s not officially listed as compatible. Here are a few points to consider:

Power Requirements: The x15 R1 typically uses a 240W power supply, so the 330W adapter will provide more than enough power. This additional capacity won’t damage your laptop, as the device will only draw the power it needs.

Connector Compatibility: Ensure that the connector type of the 330W adapter matches the power input on your x15 R1. If the connectors are not compatible, the adapter won't work, regardless of power capacity.

Thermal Considerations: A higher wattage adapter might run cooler under load compared to a lower wattage one, which can be beneficial during intense gaming sessions.

Warranty and Support: If your laptop is still under warranty, using an unofficial power supply WILL affect warranty claims. Be sure to check the terms.

While it won't damage your laptop, there is no advantage of using higher wattages charger.  Your device only takes the power it needs.

Here is the correct charger for your laptop  https://www.dell.com/en-ie/shop/dell-240w-74mm-gan-slim-ac-adapter/apd/450-also/pc-accessories

Thank you both for the answers. I think I will get the 330w as the brick won't be running at full capacity at a constant basis so theoretically is should have a longer life.
