X14 R2, Error Code 10 under System Firmware 1.27.0 in Device Manager

Hi all! I was troubleshooting some pretty serious performance issues with my laptop, when I checked my Device Manager and noticed there was a Code 10 error under the System Firmware 1.27.0 device, and a message saying that BitLocker was preventing the firmware from updating properly. I disabled BitLocker and restarted from the Start Menu, and got a different error code (Code 14) prompting me to restart again. I restarted, this time using the Restart Computer button under the Device Status box in the Properties menu for System Firmware 1.27.0. After restarting the second time, I got hit with another Code 10 error, but the message was different. It reads:

“This device cannot start. (Code 10)

Indicates a revision number encountered or specified is not known by the service. It may be a more recent revision than the service is aware of.”

1.27.0 is the most recent firmware version, so I can’t update it to fix it, and the Roll Back Driver button in the Driver section of Properties is grayed out. When I look in msinfo32, it says my BIOS is still on version 1.26.1.

What’s going on here, and what can I do to fix it?

Thanks in advance for any help!

You could try uninstalling Support Assist and then try installing the new firmware update directly for the Support page for your system.
