Seekig help - Alienware m18 R2 Motherboard failure at 16 months

I'm hoping someone here can help me find a resolution to an issue I'm having with my Alienware m18 R2, purchased on 24th November 2024 ST .

After 16 months the device has completely failed with a 3 red/5 blue LED error code which, as Dell Technical Support confirmed is a motherboard fault. As you can imagine this is very disappointing for a premium device at this price point.

I've already spoken to Dell Technical Support, and while the team were helpful, the conversation ended without a resolution as the device is just outside its standard warranty period and I'd have to pay a significant amount of money for a resolution.

I do believe I have grounds to request a remedy, which recognises that goods should remain of satisfactory quality for a reasonable period - and I feel 16 months falls short of that for a laptop of this calibre.

I'd genuinely like to resolve this constructively and would appreciate being connected with someone in Dell's UK Customer Relations team or the equivalent team who can help.

My Service Tag is . Happy to provide further details via direct message.

Thank you!

I don't think you'll get anywhere appealing for a no-cost repair, but you may be able to buy a warranty extension.  It may not be inexpensive but will likely cost less than a mainboard replacement.

For that, call your local Dell sales office.

S3rgio, try this guy: https://www.parts-people.com/service.htm, also look him up on YT, it's all he does is repair dell laptops, including board level repair on the M18r2 like yours. Pretty reasonable too, cheaper than the extended warranty you can get from d3ll. He buys out all of dell's parts and has a huge warehouse. Look him up, I think you'll be impressed. He'll likely do a video of the work too. BTW, i have this same LT and it is def a monster, love it. Good luck, let us know how you fare with this.

You probably won't have much luck with Dell but you can check the consumer law in the UK. Some countries (like here in Australia) do have rules that state a warranty period should reflect the price of the item. Even if it's past the official warranty period, they may still have to arrange a free repair if it's not considered a 'reasonable' time. It's an outside chance but worth looking into.

Extending the warranty period like ejn63 mentioned is usually a good option.
