m16 R2, safely use a 330W or 360W Dell Charger?
I'm currently using the standard 240W charger with my Alienware m16 R2, but I feel it's not quite enough for my usage, especially during intensive tasks where I notice power limitations. I'm considering upgrading to a 330W or 360W Dell charger (same voltage/specs), as I understand that in theory, a higher-wattage adapter shouldn't cause issues since the laptop should only draw what it needs. However, Dell's official documentation states that the m16 R2 isn't compatible with chargers above 280W. My concern is whether the laptop will recognize the 330W adapter properly or limit charging/performance?

Usually when Dell note what is 'Compatible' with a system it means that these are what have been tested with the system, not what is actually compatible for real life use.
I have been using higher wattage adapters in Alienware laptops for many years and never had a problem. As you say, the laptop will only draw the power it needs from the adapter.
You shouldn't require more than a 280W for your system though so I would suggest to go for one of these.
As usual, it's a 'do at your own risk' thing.

I was just looking for a second charger for my Alienware x16 R2 and the Compatible Parts and Upgrades page lists the Dell 360W 7.4mm GaN Slim adapter. https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/dell-360w-74mm-gan-slim-adapter/apd/492-bdnz/pc-accessories
It might have been recently updated so you might want to check again.
Cheers!
