m15 R7, SSD drive disappear

Hi everyone, I got an m15 r7 a few months ago all good  until a few days ago... My secondary ssd drive started to disappear, I went to BIOS and changed from RAID to AHCI, still have the same issue..

Does anyone have the same issue, was able to fix this or knows anything that I can do to solve the problem.

The only way to get the ssd drive back is restarting the laptop...also if I am playing a game installed on 2sd ssd drive sometimes stopped get error, and the drive disappears.. super annoying and shouldnt happen on a machine like this..

I also have all the BIOS and drivers updated...

Please can someone help?

Thanks

Same here for the last few months. I tried with three different ssds but the problem is always the same. If the primary disk is in slot 2, the speeds are very low, but if the non-primary is in slot 2, the ssd disappears completely. Dell technician came today, replaced the motherboard, the problem is still there. After replacing the motherboard the laptop worked fine for a few hours, but then... I will contact Dell support again.

@Vladimir Jevtovic Hi Vladimir, thank you for your comment... I still have the same issue, still unaware on how to solve it... If you can please keep us update after you contact dell again, it will be great. Thanks for your help :)

This is model (Alienware m15 r7) has MAJOR issues without question. I have an Alienware m15 r7 laptop and my daughter has the exact same model and make. We both have had secondary SSDs fail and just disappear from Window 11 Pro when heavy loads are placed on them such as the RedDead Remp 2 game or rendering mp3 home videos mp3. I warranty one SSD with Dell and they replaced my motherboard after a 3rd party Dell technician hosed my motherboard. My daughter is RMAing a SSD drive with Crucial/Micron. This is ridiculous, I wish we wouldn't have spent $2K $$$$ on a laptop that is highly disappointing. So much for a high performance laptop.

The default setting for storage controller being "RAID" is a bad choice by dell. Other owners are stating changing to AHCI. Found the below from a READIT poster.

Note: in order to change from RAID to AHCI, you can't just change it and it's good to go.
First you have to launch msconfig, go to the boot tab and change to Safe boot-Minimal, hit OK.
Then reboot, but go into the BIOS and change the mode to AHCI. Save and exit the bios,
which should then boot you into Safe boot-Minimal mode.
Launch msconfig again, then boot tab, deselect Safe boot, hit OK.
Reboot again and Windows should now load the proper drivers for a standard NVMe controller (instead of RAID drivers).

@Solarstar That didn't solve the problem for me, SSD2 still disappears. I've been waiting for a month to receive a package in which I can pack the computer and send it to Dell service. For me, a total disaster.

My laptop and my daughters warranty have ran out. Hmmm, it might be time to purchase a month's warranty and RMA this trash machine. A new drive Crucial RMAed drive arrived today installing into my daughters laptop and made the AHCI. Fingers crossed.

I won't be buying a Alienware laptop again. The issue still remains. My second SSD just randomly disappears. Bought an HP OMEN for my son.

@Vladimir Jevtovic - Did you ever send yours back and did anything improve?

Yes, I sent it back to the service center. They concluded that the SSD installed in slot 2 was faulty. I told them that I tested the system with four different SSDs (two brand new), they rejected the claim and returned the laptop. I contacted Dell Support again and they decided to replace the motherboard again. To be continued...

@Vladimir Jevtovic In the meantime, I can't copy files, folders... The system can't perform simple operations related to the SSD installed in the second slot.

<Removed due to CoC violation Dell-Admin> So Dell can quite finger pointing functional SSD drives. I also tried multiple brand new SSD and have had the same exact issue and results. The SSD in Slot 2 hard fails and just randomly stops working with the exact same error you posted.

@Solarstar I completely agree with you, this is such a shame for Dell Alienware. I have to mention that this system cost 3000 euros when I bought it, and it doesn't have two functional slots. Replacing the motherboard doesn't solve the problem. The technician will come next week and when he installs a new one (the second one) we will see what happens. Maybe this is the solution :)

@Vladimir Jevtovic  I hope it does resolve the issue for you are having! Sadly I don't have warranty on my laptop or my daughters. If you could?! Could you post your mother version and make before the changed so we can compare to the new motherboard? I would be very interested if there is a version difference in the before and after motherboard such as a different chip or chip set? This is my bios info.

@Solarstar Have you tried renewing Dell Support Premium? You may be able to do this even if your warranty has expired. Here is the current system information.
