m15 R7, secondary SSD idling at 100% or occasionally disappearing

I've been having this issue that's been driving me crazy. I am running a 2022 AlienWare M15R7 with Intel Core i7 12700H, 64GB DDR5 Crucial RAM, GeForce 3070 Ti and 2xSamsung 990 Pro SSDs.

Basically the issue is that the D: drive specifically goes idle at 100% usage and becomes unusable. It happens both while doing something or while doing nothing (AFK). The only way to restore the laptop to working order is to force shutdown holding the power button and then turn it on again.

From what I've seen around apparently switching from RAID to AHCI/NVMe mode in BIOS fixes this, but I think I did that before initializing / switching to 2 SSD's. 

Would switching this mode format both my SSDs or just the secondary one? Will it fix it? It's terrible, because I have to force shutdown my laptop several times a day and it interrupts my workflow.
