m15 R6, residual power issue

I bought an Alienware m15 R6. It was delivered then there was a hardware issue in external speakers on the first day itself. This issue has been addressed and sealed the defect product as DOA. Then it was replaced with a New system after a couple of tests.

4 months later I am facing another hardware issue in it. Like frequently I am facing residual power static electricity remains in laptop even after the laptop is turned off. I am very disappointed with Dell' Alienware Product with such poor hardware. This is second new laptop replaced by Dell which also has hardware issues.

Every time I need to remove the battery and drain the flea power static electricity. This is very problematic.

Hi @Lenin Samson !

@bjm_ did a post on this before and I wanted to give credit to him.

  1. Shut down the computer by holding the power button until the system hard shuts off.
  2. Unplug the computer from the wall socket.
  3. If the battery is removable, Remove the battery and hold the Power button down for 60 seconds.
  4. If the battery is non-removable, while the computer is ON, hold the power button down and wait for the computer to shut down and still hold the power button down for another 60 seconds.
  5. Turn the computer ON and check.

I need a permanent solution to this repeatedly persisted issue, this should not be faced in a high end Gaming Laptop like this .

This is a high end gaming laptop pricing 2.4L, this issue will rise only in old laptops or when bad grounding or bad capacitors used Laptops .

If i didn't get a permanent solution for this defect hardware , i just want to return & refund this laptop.

Hi @Lenin Samson ,

If you'd like to, I'd recommend you ask for a replacement laptop from DELL or use your warranty to replace the mainboard. Its all up to you as my old 15 R1 had the same issue but it would not have the issue for about 2 months until it happens again.

I have the same issue with my Alienware m15 r6. Bought it in 2021. Did not have the issue until 2023! And ever since it has been repeatedly occurring!  Common Dell! You guys could have designed a pinhole reset to save us from the trouble of having to open up the back panel , disconnect the battery, drain the power and put it all back together. Do you know how annoying this is when this issue is persistent 2-3 times a month?

In the long run its going to damage the battery ribbon from repeated removals and re-connections.

About time you guys take accountability of this issue and provide a permanent fix! If not at least a replacement laptop!

@DELL-Jesse L What version of BIOS fixes this issue? My m15 r6 constantly undergoes updates and yet the issue is persistent! Absolutely frustrating! This issue makes the laptop useless. We do not buy laptops to be repeatedly opening the back panels and fiddle with the internals. If that was the case I would have stayed away from Alienware laptops and bought a desktop! Please provide a permanent solution to this! There are so many affected by this stupid issue!
