Can you Swap parts between different Alienware laptops?

Hi I have an older 17 R4-4K laptop.  I neen to get some basic ribbon lock caps for a few of the ribbon connectors.  I am a bit concerned if I buy a used (17 R4-2K, 17 R3, 15 R4, etc) instead.... that the internel parts would be too different, thereby spending hundreds of dollars on "useless parts?  Is this anything to worry about?

Thanks, Maka

Hi @Matt Ee welcome to this free user-to-user Alienware laptop discussion forum.

Some parts are common within a laptop series and OEM parts are available from Dell Laptop Parts | Dell Parts | Dell Laptop Repair | Dell Repair (parts-people.com)

Motherboard locking sockets for captivation of ribbon cables are difficult to replace when broken. Purchase of broken laptops or circuit boards sold on eBay 'for parts only' is usually the only option. These parts might be available from $100 Dell Laptop Repair | Dell Repair | Laptop Repair | Notebook Service Center (parts-people.com).

The surest path is the same model -- anything else is a gamble.  Even between revisions there can be hardware differences -- the manufacturer of the system may in fact be different.
