Battery is not charging

Hi, i have an alienware M17 laptop service Tag: (Service Tag Removed)

I have been having problems with the battery not charging, the minute I take it off the electricity the laptop shuts down.

I changed to a brand new battery thinking it is a battery issue; turns out I still have the same problem.

Is there any DELL or Alienware technical support store in manhattan I can stop by?

First question:  does the system recognize the AC adapter (F2 at powerup to check)?  If it does not, the battery will not charge.

Is the replacement battery OEM or third party?  Is it recognized by the system?

No, there aren't any walk-in Dell support sites -- this system is almost certainly out of warranty so you can use any repair shop you'd like to get an idea of what's wrong.  If the adapter is recognized and the battery is third party, an OEM battery would be a good idea to try next.

If the adapter is not recognized, the system won't charge the battery. Try a new OEM AC adapter first.  If it too is unrecognized, replace the DC jack:

I have removed your Service Tag from your original post. This is private information and shouldn't be shared publicly.

Have you tried running a system diagnostic, F12 during startup to get into the Boot Menu. This will tell you if the Battery and Adapter is being recognised and what the charge rate is.

You could try doing a power reset by unplugging the adapter and battery and holding down the power button for 60 seconds but it does seem like you could have a hardware failure.
