Area-51m R2, upgrade to RTX 2080 Super?
Alienware Area-51m R2
Hello. I live in Brazil. I have an Area-51m R2 with 2070 Super, I would like to upgrade to RTX 2080 Super. Dell in Brazil does not have it. Can I buy directly from Dell in the USA?
I appreciate if anyone can help me.

The 7CPGJ RTX 2080 Super shows as not available to sell in the Spare Parts tool.
Adding to the above, the 512 bump in CUDA score is certainly not worth the price.

Yes, I was told that the part is not available. And not how to get it.

Hi @RBlasius,
Have you tried calling DELL Brazil and asking if they can order you the part from USA?

Dell won't ship parts internationally -- and these cards were in short supply even when ordering a new system. I don't think you'll have any success buying from Dell.
There are a few listed for sale on EBay at the moment for about $1,000 or so -- see if anyone has a good reputation and ships internationally.
I suspect the only way to obtain one from Dell is by means of a warranty replacement -- rarely are these made in numbers much larger than that needed to support in-warranty systems.

Thank you!
There should be a link to purchase directly from the website. Of all parts to upgrade. It would make it a lot easier for anyone thinking about it.

Yes, I found them on e-bay, but they are used. There is no warranty like the new ones from Dell. And the price is high for something used.

When the 2080 kits existed for the prior 51m R1, they were more on the order of $1,800 new -- so half that (or 60% thereof) isn't all that bad.
These GPUs are produced in very small numbers globally (and unlike the standard ones used in Clevo-built systems are proprietary -- so the prices will always be very high, not that they're inexpensive in MXM3 format either).

The performance boost is around 15-20% (in 4K). Depending on the amount invested, it's even less than swapping for a new laptop.

Hi! That's right, about 20%. I looked at reviews of Alienware Area 51m R2 with 2080 super and compared it with mine and its 2070 super. The results are close to that. At 4K I have to set most games to medium-high quality to get to 60 FPS. With the 2080 super, I'll have performance for years to come.
His cooling system is fantastic. In performance mode the temperatures are 56-62 degrees on the GPU. CPU temperature never goes above 85 degrees while gaming.
So I think it's worth the upgrade. Buying another model with the Nvidia 30 series will deliver more, but at a much higher cost.
Perhaps a performance very close to the Area 51m R2.
