alienware 16 aurora nvme standoff
I recently got this system, and wanted to install a new 2280 nvme drive. I moved the standoff in the second drive slot to the correct placement, added the drive, but when putting the retention screw back into place, the screw head snapped off leaving the screw post lodged in the standoff. I checked the manual for the part number only to find that there's no part number for the standoff. with the ease of which the retention screw snapped off, I'm thinking that this might happen fairly often. I believe the spec on the standoff is m3*2.4 (or less. its kinda short). where can I get a replacement or 2 (I'd like to set them into the unused area if possible)?

@DELL-Jesse L all he's looking for is the standoff dell part number, if there is 1. if there's 1 available, please provide it.

In the Dell internal 16 Aurora AC16250 parts page, there is no listing for standoff. I see 8 screw sizes. But none of them are standoff screws.

@DELL-ChrisM2 same thing I saw in the manual. odd that this ends up being a potential system failure (given the issue stated; broken screw). there should be a remedy for this somewhere...

As the original poster, nytemare could offer comments to our discussion.
It is not a "system failure". The system still works. The SSD is just not screwed down. But the SSD should still function since it is installed in the motherboard slot.
I moved the standoff in the second drive slot to the correct placement
* That means the standoff can be unscrewed from the motherboard. Not a system failure.
the screw head snapped off leaving the screw post lodged in the standoff
* So that standoff cannot be used but can be removed from the motherboard.
Since Dell does not provide the standoffs, a possible remedy is to purchase standoff screws of assorted sizes and find the size that fits.

@DELL-ChrisM2 yet if there's no longer a second standoff, the system cannot fully function since the addition of a secondary drive cannot be secured.....

"yet if there's no longer a second standoff, the system cannot fully function"
* That is speculation on your part. @nytemare , is the drive installed in the slot? If yes, is the 16 aurora booting showing the drive?

You may find stand off and spacer at this website for reasonable prices. They are by measurement sizes.

@DELL-ChrisM2 WITHOUT the ability of RAID 1 drive security...... NVMEs fail with little to NO regard of informing the customer. in a singular drive config, the possibility of total data loss is guaranteed, while a RAID 1 allows for a drive to fail while maintaining data integrity for the customer. system is useless without full functionality......

@Chino de Oro hope the customer finds the offset here since getting the information internally appears to be a problem.

With the standoff measurement, I hope OP can find suitable replacement from that linked vendor.
Many parts from your system were listed on the system configurations (except for the standoff screws). Therefore, you have better resource (your system) to check for the part number than other users (me) or community mod (DELL-ChrisM2).

wow, lighten up francises. all I wanted was for a basic part (the standoff) number. I guess the possibility of its failure somehow was missed by dell..... I ended up using a part from an amazon kit that I had to drimmel cut off over half of the piece in order to mount the secondary drive, which opened up a whole new kettle of worms here. my desire to have the basic functionality of a protected system (running a RAID 1 drive setup) is apparently the NEW failure point here. the RAID config (in F12 device) ALSO fails. the system "takes" the config, but only sees itself in a degraded state (throwing the secondary drive into a "non raid" device status). how ironic.... given the lack of the original part number request..... I've tried several different nvme drive combinations from 800, 960, & 1.92tb, all matched pairs, all taken by the system for the RAID 1 config, ALL ALSO fail. what a nightmare. $2k down the drain over a simple internal system configuration inability. all I wanted was for the system to do what it is designed (?) to do.... and it doesn't.... disappointed to say the least. thank you all for the effort, no matter how in vane its been.......
