17 R4, transfer data to new m17 R4 of R5, doable?

Good day my present 17 R4 laptop is dying, I plan to get a new one. Can I transfer old 17 R4 data and programs to new m17 R4 or R5 laptop?  Or do I need to install all my programs one by one again?  Thanks ! Maka

Data can be transferred without issue.  Programs cannot -- they must be reinstalled onto the new system.

Hi @Matt Ee welcome to this free user-to-user Alienware laptop discussion forum.

Just move the original Alienware m7 R4 Storage laptop's M.2 PCIe Gen3 NVMe SSD cards to the new laptop should be sufficient. However, Dell Product Support did not find Alienware (Aurora) R17 R4 or Alienware (Aurora) R17 R5. Please provide clarification.

Are you wanting to get clone (copy) onto a larger capacity M.2 NVMe SSD OS (C:) boot drive and/or PCIe Gen3 or Gen4 M.2 NVMe SSD card and thereby retain all of your application licences and data?

Why is your existing original Alienware m17 R4 laptop dying? Does it just want a new battery?

The Dell Community users are here to offer free advice for your consideration.

Cool, thanks for the advice,  I think I'll just buy (Already ordered) a 1TB SSD card and just clone my 256 SSD to that, replace the screen and keep on truckin!
