17 R4, 17 R5 motherboard, Alienware Pointing Devices refuses to install
<4 year old thread. Start new threads. DELL-Admin>
Exact same thing with my 1080 17 R5 board in a 17 R4.
LUCKILY!! I have a 17 R4 on the other side of the room that restored itself to factory defaults.
Looks like when the boards fail, you are supposed to source one from overseas. That’s supposed to be Dell’s job and not the consumer! <Incorrect. Dell is not going to have parts for end of life 2016 17 R4 and 2018 17 R5. DELL-Admin>
Any idea how to grab that factory firmware or applications since Dell refuses to supply drivera for their product?
BIOS flash and none of the AWCC apps would get the touchpad backlight to work on this one, and either touch pad has a light when connected to the 17 R4 but not the 17 R5. Dis they really change the settings on us?
TW2417 are my touch pads, and how do I get the backlight to work on the 17 R5 motherboard? This is why y’all missed the mark on continuously supporting your product!
(because 17 R4 will all fail and become e-Waste due to you QA.

Hi
I am a little out of my depth with trying to understand the problem.
That does not mean I aint got something silly to contribute.....
Some Alienware 17 R5 units have 4-zone or per-key RGB lighting; both are controlled via AWCC and AlienFX
Try Fn + F5/F6/F10/Right Arrow
BUT I believe your thoughts are that the R5 is in dark mode at all times and cannot have keyboard backlighting, and it seems you are correct.
