15 R2, fans spinning at max speed after cleaning, BIOS update and Intel software

Hello,

I’m experiencing an issue with my Alienware 15 R2 laptop. After getting the fans cleaned and thermal paste reapplied, everything seemed fine at first. However, shortly after, I updated the BIOS to a newer version and also installed some Intel software (possibly Intel Dynamic Tuning or related drivers) and dell-Alienware-Update-Windows-Universal. Since then, my fans run at full speed right from startup, even when the system is idle or only Chrome is open. CPU temperatures are shown as high (around 75–90°C), but I suspect this may be inaccurate because the laptop was just cleaned and repasted.

I’ve tried:

  • Rolling back the BIOS version (no change)

  • Running Dell Diagnostics (no errors found)

  • Removing Intel software (but some won’t uninstall completely)

Is anyone else facing the same issue? Any ideas what might be causing the fan behavior — is it BIOS-related, a sensor fault, or the Intel software?

Thanks in advance!

Run a full system diagnostic (F12 at powerup).  What do the temperatures reveal during that?

@ejn63"First, I tested the fan and CPU, then I checked the temperatures and this is what I saw:"

If you installed Support Assist then this is probably the culprit. This has often caused fans to run at full speed on older laptops. If you do have this installed then there are usually 3 or 4 things that you need to uninstall to completely remove it. Go through the list in 'Uninstall a program' and remove anything that mentions Support Assist.

If this isn't your issue then it could be a bad sensor or a bad paste job. The CPU probably shouldn't be around 80deg at idle.

You can also pull the heatsink off to check that it's sitting against the CPU properly with no dry spots.

I deleted version 6 of the command center and installed version 5. That helped a little with the problem. Deleting  Support Assist didn't work, and now it won't install again.
