X51 R2, I was looking for memory RAM upgrades
I have an Alienware x51 R2 with Intel i7 4790 which I assume is a 4th generation processor, 2x4GB DDR3 1600Mhz RAM sticks.
I would like to upgrade to 16GB and I what I was looking for is a 8GB DDR3 RAM sticks but they are Low Voltage and I would like to know if my motherboard would be compatible with low voltage RAM's from what I have found online people say only 4th Generation CPU's can handle lower voltages but I would like to be sure before buying

Low voltage DDR3L RAM are compatible and interchangeable in slots designed for DDR3 RAM.
(However DDR3 won't work in a slot designed for DDR3L because it needs a higher voltage than the slot provides)
Re: people say only 4th Generation CPU's can handle lower voltages
that is incorrect.
It is the motherboard that directly handles the memory. Intel 1-4th gen cpu associated motherboard work with DDR3 ram in general.
Some desktop pc motherboard that support Intel 6th gen cpu are designed to work with DDR3L low voltage RAM only, such as Dell Inspiron 3650 or Optiplex 3040.
