Swap R10 Motherboard to upgrade CPU from 3000 to 5000 series
Hi, everyone,
Would it be possible to swap my current R10 motherboard (3000 series NWN7M ) to the most recent (5000 series TYR0X) and reusing all existing components (850w PS + Liquid cooling system)?. The idea is to upgrade from 3700X to 5900X
and if possible, would it be an achievable task as a 1st project of this kind?
Thanks!

I have had an R10 coupled to a 3700X, and there is no bottleneck on the CPU side of things at 1440P or higher resolution.
There is only a bottleneck at 1080P.
So unless you are planning at gaming primarily at 1080P, there's no real gaming performance to be had from the upgrade.
As luck might have it (you are a lucky person), I also recently upgraded a retail system with a 5900X and also put an Alienware RTX 3080 in that system. Originally that retail system had the 3700X and RTX 3080 that I pulled from my R10 in it. While there is a large difference in multicore performance, there's minor difference in gaming. Which is ok for me because I do other things besides gaming on that PC.
So I have all the first hand experience when it comes to all these parts and systems. If you are going through the trouble of upgrading the motherboard, I would suggest upgrading to a retail case, PSU and motherboard and pull the 3700X and 3080 from the R10. I did exactly that a year ago and my overall 3D performance in various benchmarks were anything from 5-10% higher than on my R10. It will provide many more options for future upgrades, and if you are a heavy gamer a 5800X3D is by today's standards still a very capable gaming CPU and most retail boards support that CPU.

Thanks for the reply
1) There are motherboards available on Ebay
2) Agree, but this pc is currently 2+ years old
3) To get better performance due to recent upgrade to a 3080
Thoughts ?

First problem would be getting the motherboard, as these are not sold.
Second problem would be that after the upgrade, you still have an end of life product with only the basic support available.
Third and most importantly: what is the reasoning for the upgrade from a 3700X to a 5900X?

Excellent advice and I really appreciate you shared such details of your "upgrade" experience in this post. I think that is definitely the way to go in order to optimize performance. Cheers!
