service tag number question for OLED monitors AW2725Q and AW2725DF

I find myself having to resell my monitors but shoppers keep asking me for the SERVICE TAG#, is this a scam? I am afraid of providing it and  the oled monitor replacement and leave me with the bill. Could they do that or anything negative with the SERVICE TAG#?

when you sell the Dell product to another person, the service tag of that product goes to new owner, and you are no longer associated with the product, although you are the original buyer/owner.  I got Dell laptop second hand which I sent for in/out of warranty repair.  every communication comes directly to me and has nothing to do with original owner.  Dell mod deletes s.t on public forum.  If you think an individual interested buyer is local it is your personal choice to release s.t to the buyer or not.  I think it is in general good idea not list it on social media where everyone can see it and can be used potentially by bot.

redxps630 makes several good points. A scammer could obtain the private service tag, perhaps your other private information, then try to transfer the ownership of the service tag to themselves.

As a seller, you should verify that the monitor:
* Passes the Self-test and Built-in diagnostics
* All video in ports function
* All downstream ports function

If they bought it, they can see the service tag number themselves so there would be no need to ask for it.

If they did not buy it, they don't need it as they don't own the product. If they insist they need it, there's more than likely going to be a reason for it that is fishy.

I can see a potential nefarious party purchase a broken monitor for dirt cheap, scour the internet for a service tag from a working monitor, and try to exchange their broken one under warranty using the working service tag.

While there are other things needed for a monitor exchange, I can see something along those lines happening.
