Ethernet either dead or something

Ethernet controller missing or broken?

So i few things happened yesterday and i am not sure which if any are to blame. First off i got a warning on windows defender regarding Trojan:Win32/Vigorf.A. Now i had just used windows update and updated the windows defender definitions or whatever you call them. Now it noticed this trojan and stopped it. Looking further on the internet i noticed that this trojan is really a false positive cause it's part of many fan controllers and while it noted that it can be used to infiltrate a pc it itself is not a trojan. i also noticed the alienware command center now no longer ever shows fan controls.

Later i updated the bios from the support assist app, along with a update for support assist tools and intel rapid storage tech driver.  no issues with that it appeared at the time.

Later on i started playing this game Control for the first time. Downloaded from Xbox PC game pass. And the PC locked up, had to hit the power button. When the pc booted back up i was no longer able to access the internet with my ethernet. I can with wifi. The ethernet controller is not in device manager anymore. I've tried all the basics but nothing.   Went to intel to reinstall the killer performance suite but it says it cant cause it cant find a killer controller.

Now i find it unlikely the cable died. Being these events seem to blame, at least one of them. i'm past my warranty period so i really need some help.

UPDATE.....  I found that if in device manager i select show hidden devices the ethernet controller is there but grayed out. and "Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer. (Code 45)" appears under properties. trying to update the driver does not help
