Did Alienware Driver Update 0.2.30.0 force a reboot and cause Windows 11 Hello PIN reset?

Hi everyone,

I am trying to figure out whether an Alienware Driver Update (0.2.30.0) may have caused my system to reboot and then made me reset my Windows Hello PIN in Windows 11.

On March 19, 2026, (today approximately 4:30PM EST) my PC restarted on its own while I was idle, and after booting back up, Windows asked me to set up my PIN again. The message I saw seemed to suggest it was related to a Windows security update.

When I checked Windows Update history, I saw these updates for that day:

  • Security Intelligence Update for Microsoft Defender Antivirus
      - KB2267602
      - Version 1.445.622.0
  • Alienware. Driver Update (0.2.30.0)

I am wondering if this Alienware. Driver Update (0.2.30.0) update may have caused this reboot and Windows Hello PIN reset? I am trying to figure out whether I should be worried about malicious activity on my computer, or whether this was intended behavior.

Thanks.

Hello, if you disclose the system model and operating system info, maybe other users with the same Alienware can chime in with their experiences.

In general, when a computer runs BIOS firmware update with security features enabled, it changes hardware security signature and may trigger request recovery key for BitLocker or Windows login PIN reset as in your case.  You should not worry about if that was a firmware update.
