Computer freezes and crashes with blue screen + "Run PXE over IPv4" after using a seagate HDD

Alienware Aurora R12

Alienware Aurora R12

I got a seagate 5tb external hard drive in hopes of using it for more game storage. When I plugged it in everything was fine and it auto connected. But a few minutes in my pc would freeze, and either go into a blue screen or force me to turn it off and on again. I would then get "Run PXE over IPv4 (or IPv6) on Mac" message and/or a critical error message with the error code 2000-0141 and No Hard Drive Detected warning. I unplugged the drive manually several times not knowing it needed to be safely ejected. I then safely ejected the drive and even with the drive now out of my pc and returned to amazon, my pc continues to freeze and give me these messages every couple of minutes. It even did it as I was writing this post.

"Start PXE over IPv4" Message: Indicates that the computer is attempting to network boot because it couldn't find a local boot device

your boot drive may be corrupted.  when you plug in the external drive it could have messed up the UEFI boot path.

sometimes it is easier to do a clean install of Windows if you can not fix it quickly.  the clean install wipes the ssd/hdd clean, which is drastic medicine in a desperate case.

if you need more storage, use an internal secondary ssd or hdd that was wiped clean before you put in the system.
