AW3423DW, coil whine
Last week my Alienware 34 Curved OLED Monitor AW3423DW started making a noticeably louder coil whine to the point where I can't stand using the monitor without headphones. After contacting "technical support", they suggested that I update the firmware, clean out the vents, and then send them a video of the audio. So I did that. Then when the problem persisted, they said it was "normal" for the monitor. I pushed back suggesting that "normal" operating sounds of a monitor don't suddenly show up after 18 months. "Technical support" then suggested I update the firmware and clean out the vents...again! Actually they suggested it five times...
Has anyone found any actual fix for this? For anyone looking to get one, I'd recommend using Samsung instead. <Violations as defined by Dell removed. Read the Forum Code of Conduct. DELL-Admin> Or at least be prepared to hand out another grand to replace in 1-2 years.
TLDR: The Alienware 34 Curved OLED Monitor AW3423DW is a gorgeous monitor but at $1,100, it has cheap electrical parts that will fail after about 18 months and tech support will say it's normal. <Violations as defined by Dell removed. Read the Forum Code of Conduct. DELL-Admin>
