AW3225QF, stuck on Pixel Refresh?

Yesterday, I made a post mentioning that my AW3225QF monitor had started going black intermittently. This prompted me to investigate the behavior more closely.

The monitor functions normally for a few seconds, then the screen goes completely dark—so dark that not even the OSD appears when pressing the joystick. However, the monitor remains powered on, as the LEDs stay lit, and Windows still recognizes it as an active display. I can even move windows to the monitor (though obviously, I can’t see anything since the screen is black).

The only way to get a few seconds of use is to turn the monitor off and then back on. It works fine for about 10 seconds, then the screen goes black again—almost as if a Pixel or Panel Refresh had been triggered.

What led me to this conclusion is that, during one of those brief usable moments, I manually triggered the Panel Refresh. The screen went black, and after the process finished, it displayed the usual color calibration lines. Then the monitor shut off, requiring me to turn it back on manually. After doing so, the same behavior repeated: it worked briefly, then went black again after about 10 seconds. This behavior led me to believe that the monitor is looping some sort of "Pixel refresh" and that's why is putting my display completely black.

I hope this information is helpful to anyone experiencing the same issue.

Did you ever resolve this? Mine is turning on into pixel refresh and not letting me click yes or no, just restarting the refresh each time. It’s unusable and out of warranty apparently.

@HeavyRifleman

Unfortunately, no — the monitor is keeps working for a several seconds and then the panel becomes dark, completely unusable,  and since it’s out of warranty, I’m out of luck. I ended up buying a new one.

I tested literally everything: downgrading and upgrading firmware, swapping cables, changing power outlets, and even resetting to factory settings — nothing worked. My best guess is that the logic board is faulty.

What bothers me the most is the lack of support from Dell. I’m pretty sure this is something that could be easily repaired, but Dell either replaces the entire unit or expects you to buy a new one. For some reason I don’t understand, they don’t offer repairs at all.

Did you try any local places like ubreakifix?

@HeavyRifleman

I’m not from the US, and I really looked into whether someone here could fix it — but no luck. Even the authorized Dell repair centers don’t repair monitors at all.

This is disappointing. Hopefully others will see this.
