AW3225QF, sRGB 2.2 gamma bug

Alienware 32 4K QD OLED Gaming Monitor AW3225QF

Alienware 32 4K QD OLED Gaming Monitor AW3225QF

My AW3225QF with using Preset Mode Creator with Color Space sRGB and Gamma 2.2 is washed out. Using the AVS HD file "1-Black Clipping.mp4" I can verify that the dark tones above black level are very light. They are brighter with 2.2 than with 2.0. The firmware is the newest M2B105.

I took pictures of gamma 2.0, 2.2 and 2.4 so you can see the issue.

Is anyone else having this and how to fix this issue because everyone in reddit etc. are saying that Preset Mode Creator with Color Space sRGB and Gamma 2.2 is the best but because of the bug I'm experiencing it makes it very bad.

Have you tried gamma 2.4?  May be see what you think of it instead of what everybody else thinks.

I have tried Gamma 2.4. Overall picture is a bit darker than what I would like but it's still much better than Gamma 2.2 right now with the bug.

I opened a support ticket to Dell and this is what I got back:
"I have got the pictures reviewed by our Engineering team and got the information it is working as design.

It is a limitation with the OLED panel and the options being ran.

With this specific panel, as per the information is to leave it running and working for a couple hours, and as time goes by it will look better. it still would not be perfect though."

I don't agree with their assessment at all. Just look these supposeldy dimly lit cellars at Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 game how the sRGB gamma 2.2 is washed out completely with raised dark tones.

I wonder if curved monitors are more problematic than flat ones.

@HikinenM  I agree with your assessment that Dell's assessment was unsatisfactory.

For posterity below are the last pics I will send here to show the issue. I sent these to Dell support as well.

Pictures are from the game KCD2 game and of course the phone doesn't capture 100 % what I'm actually seeing but it will give an impression.

As you can see the Gamma 2.2 will blow out the contrast compelety in the picture with people eating inside a dimly lit house. Even the colors seem to fade from the candle light and dark yellowish tint is replaced by washed out grey tint.

Below is woods in the night. In KCD2 (and KCD) the nights are dark by design and you are not supposed to see almost anything without a light source. sRGB gamma 2.2 however lightens up the night and you can see basically everything in this weird night to day effect.

In your first 3 photos above, gamma 2.0 almost looks the most accurate, but still has a little bit of whitewash as the woman on the very left looks a little faded from the light.

Ha, I wonder if gamma 2.2 gives you an advantage in the dark forest.

I also wonder if you want to consider a different monitor.

The cause is that the 2.2 gamma option in sRGB Creator mode is actually using piecewise gamma instead of true 2.2.  Search online for "aw3225qf 2.2 piecewise gamma" and you will find discussions of the issue along with work-arounds.  One work-around is to use a custom Windows color profile to correct for the issue.  Another is to switch to Standard mode and then use a separate program to clamp the color range to sRGB.  The second method is what I use and it works pretty well.
