AW3225QF, M2B107 - Dolby Vision Mode Resets to Game Mode After Monitor Wakes from Standby on Windows 11 (RTX 5080)

I'm not sure whether Windows 11 with an RTX 5080 uses Dolby Vision by default. However, a major annoyance is that after the monitor wakes from standby, it always switches back to Dolby Vision Game Mode instead of retaining my preferred setting (e.g., Dolby Vision Dark Mode), which I have to manually reselect each time.

  1. Does the monitor correctly detect and distinguish between HDR10 and Dolby Vision signals? From what I understand, Windows 11 defaults to HDR10,please correct me if I'm wrong.

  2. On the Windows desktop (not during movie playback, just regular use like MS Office), the monitor’s OSD initially shows the signal as HDR10, and the Smart HDR option is available. But after waking from standby, the OSD status changes to Dolby Vision, Smart HDR becomes unavailable, and the display mode defaults to Game Mode, ignoring the user’s previously selected Dolby Vision setting.

    If possible, kindly address this issue in a future firmware update. Please also let us know if you're already aware of this behavior and whether a fix is currently in progress.

    Thank you.

I had the same issue but a new version of Windows 11 added an option to enable Dolby Vision directly from the OS ant the issue was resolved.

Hope this helps.

@doremo I think it's a gradual update from Microsoft. The Update is:

This update released on April but i got it on June so i assume that you will get the update gradually.

@Noctiz

After updating Windows, the Dolby Vision option has appeared. However, the OSD settings on the monitor occasionally reset to default. For example, even if I set the display mode to "DV Dark," it sometimes reverts back to "Game Mode" on its own.

The second issue is with dynamic refresh rate settings. Previously, the display supported both Dynamic Refresh Rate and Variable Refresh Rate , but after the Windows update, the DRR option is now grayed out and cannot be enabled. The VRR toggle is also disappeared.

It’s frustrating that these issues persist despite updating the NVIDIA driver to the latest version. Modern-generation displays seem to have so many compatibility problems, I'm not sure if this is a Windows related compatibility issue or a problem with the hardware itself.

I turned off G-Sync in nvidia panel and the flickering stopped. The method provided by the user Noctiz did not work for me. The screen flickering problem appeared after updating the monitor to version 107. It's very disappointing that I can't use an important feature like G-sync on a monitor that costs so much money.

@aresorekI’ve noticed that many modern display settings seem to conflict with each other , for example, enabling Option A forces other options to be turned off or grayed out. The system lacks the ability to manage these settings collaboratively, and it doesn’t intelligently adapt features based on the user’s usage scenario
