AW2725DF, flickering Discord app, full screen games

Hi Guys,

I am addressing this problem because it does not completely match the VRR Flicker Issue Posts that I have seen so far and I wanted to know if it affects more people than just me.

I recently got the Alienware AW2725DF and everything seemed great from the start. I adjusted it to my preference and installed the newest firmware.

A few days ago tho I started noticing problems with the discord app flickering. Until now I could limit the cause for this problem to the following.

First off I think the problem is not only with discord but the app has a greyish look and the flicker is very noticable there.

Furthermore I noticed this problem only when I have a game running in the background, be it Fullscreen or Fullscreen Window. It does not happen when the games are in Windowed - Mode. I tried it with Apex Legends and Battlebit Remastered.

I also noticed that the issue only exists when having a refresh rate HIGHER than 144 Hz like 240Hz or 360 Hz.

The Problem does not exist in the games itself but on other Applications like Discord. What I noticed in Discord is a sudden brightness change that happens more than once per Second, which I would refer to as flicker, and also a more noticeable distraction that looks like a bar, around 1/8 of the screens height, travels from top to bottom and back up. In this bar appear smaller much lighter bars that also flicker which is very annoying to look at and also gives me a headache.

Can anyone tell me if they noticed the same?

Question : When u have a game running at 240 Hz+ and Tab out to the desktop and look at discord do you also see weird greyish white flicker that travels from top to bottom?

Greetings

Both Aw3225qf and aw2725df have also a big issue with hdr1000 nits, there are multiple threads with people angry about the situation, and Dell refuses to give an answer neither fix.

@Whreck11 Yeah for a monitor in nearly the highest price segment I find it kind of unacceptable. I already prepared it to send it back because for nearly 800€ I don't want a monitor that needs endless tweaking and disabling of features just to work how it is supposed to be. Gotta try my luck with another one.

@ShrekIsLife MSI all the way my friend. They are the best right now for QD-Oled monitors

Small Update :
I've paid more attention to it since i cant return it at this point anymore.
The flicker happens everywhere also in game, meaning as soon as an application is running the screen flickers. I guess reducing the framerate to one that my GPU can produce at all times fixes the issue but still not nice when you need to adjust your monitors framerate for every game so you can have a flicker free experience.

@ShrekIsLife Yes you can use Rivatuner to lock your fps according to how much your hardware runs.

As far as i know it doesnt flicker if its same or close to your produced frame rates.

Still not the solution i was hoping for but the only way to go right now.

If i find a serious fix or Dell fixes it themselves I will update this post.
