AW2521HF, no display or osd, out of warranty

The other day I was using my computer when suddenly my screen froze and started darkening. I noticed my keyboard/PC was still responsive by checking the Caps and num lock lights. So, as the image displayed was getting close to pitch black. I turned the monitor off and turned it on again, just to be presented with the same frozen image, but progressively darker. A few seconds later and the whole screen was black. I checked if it were hardware issues, but my computer displayed image just fine with another monitor. I then unplugged everything and held the power button for 30 seconds to perform an EC reset, only to have it still not display anything, not even the OSD when pushing the buttons. I performed the Built-in Self-Test (BIST) to no success, as the screen would show no colors, despite being on (just backlit). I tried navigating the monitor's menu, but the OSD doesn't appear. Only form of response I get is when the monitor goes on stand-by and I press its buttons, which makes the panel turn on, but displays nothing. Local Dell support told me there's nothing to be done since the warranty expired roughly a year ago and that they don't fix monitors, they just ship a refurbished one while still under warranty. I am at a loss here. It used to work just fine until now and I don't want to resource another monitor untill I can diagnose what the issue is. Anyone familiar with this issue?

It's either a fault with the mainboard or the power supply inside the monitor.  Even if you do isolate the issue, the fact is that repair parts are just not available.

If you really want to try a repair, look for someone selling the exact same model with a broken display panel, and swap the internal board(s) from that one into this one (or the reverse - swap your screen into the broken monitor).  That's just about the only way you'll accomplish a repair.

@ejn63 Understood. Out of curiosity, what makes you think it's a mainboard or power supply issue? About fixining it, I've mostly given up on it. Unfourtunately, I don't have the spare money for a good brand new monitor, so I'll take my time. Thanks for the reply, it's helpful to know what I should be expecting next.

The fact that the system faded out points toward a power problem.

Unfortunately, monitors are largely unrepairable - due to parts, or in the case of a broken screen, that plus the fact that most of the cost of a monitor is in the screen.

@ejn63 Got it. I'll look for a nearby store that works with BGA welding and try my luck with a lower cost repair, before declaring it junk. I'll be sure to let you know how it ends up. Thanks again.
