Aurora R9, SSD upgrade failure
Hi,
Newbie here. I recently bought a Samsung 980 Pro 2tb Ssd to upgrade my stock 256gb Ssd that came with my R9. My R9 also came with a 1tbHDD. Something went wrong though and I am wondering if someone can help. I'll describe my process in steps below.
1. Cloned my 256GB SSD to the HDD using Macrium.
2. Installed the 2TB SSD.
3. Cloned from the HDD to the 2TB SSD.
4. Restarted the Comp and it defaulted to the old HDD.
5. Restarted again and Hit F12 for boot options.
6. Selected the 2TBSSD and Windows launched fine.
7. Formatted the old HDD. My assumption here is that if it was "clean" the comp wouldn't try to boot from it.
8. Kept having to manually select SSD each time I restarted comp even after the formatting.
9. Did a full disk clean of the HDD using Disk partition.
10. Comp stopped booting entirely and SSD no longer showed up in boot options.
So, where can fix this? I still have the original 256GB SSD and it works fine but before I go through all the trouble again, I would like to know how I can solve the boot issue and have the comp just boot normally from the new Ssd.

I solved it! I did the whole thing again with just one change. See below.
1. Cloned my 256GB SSD to the HDD using Macrium.
2. Installed the 2TB SSD.
3. Cloned from the HDD to the 2TB SSD.
4.
Restarted the Comp and it defaulted to the old HDD.Shut down the computer and disconnected the HDD.5. Started the comp and it worked JUST FINE.
5. Restarted again and Hit F12 for boot options.6. Selected the 2TBSSD and Windows launched fine.7. Formatted the old HDD. My assumption here is that if it was "clean" the comp wouldn't try to boot from it.8. Kept having to manually select SSD each time I restarted comp even after the formatting.9. Did a full disk clean of the HDD using Disk partition.10. Comp stopped booting entirely and SSD no longer showed up in boot options.Vanadiel

Your issue is you have the UEFI boot manager on your HDD, not on your new SSD. So as soon as you wiped the HDD, you lost the boot manager and the ability to boot from your SSD.
You have to do steps 1, 2 and 3 and then go into your BIOS and select the SSD UEFI to boot from.

There should be 2 windows boot manager entries. UEFI does not work based on drives or partitions, it's based on boot managers.
You have to make sure you clone the drive correctly, but Macrium reflect should be pretty straightforward to use..
Clone boot drive Macrium Reflect.
You can also run try running Reflect's "Fix Windows Boot Problems" utility in the WinPE "rescue" environment.

Thanks for the reply. I tried that. Each time I went into the boot order, the only thing that showed up was "Windows Boot Manager" without any choice of drives.

There was only one windows boot manager in the bios. It was mind boggling. I'm back at square one so I'm going to clone it all back to the 2Tb SSD and try again. It was working fine... I just didn't see the F12 boot options as an always and forever thing.
