Aurora R5, upgrading motherboard and CPU
Hey folks,
I'm thinking about upgrading my motherboard and my CPU and would like some advice. I'm currently running an Alienware 01NYPT for my mobo, and an Intel Core i7-6700 for my CPU. Whatever I upgrade to needs to be compatible with my Nvidia GeForce GTX 950 (which I may upgrade later). I'd like to keep to a budget of less than $600.00, but idk how feasible that might be and would appreciate any help.

You are running an Aurora R5 and it supports only 6th gen processors. There is not much performance upgrade from an i7-6700 to an i7-6700K. The system is compatible with the GTX 950 already without a need for higher CPU upgrade.
A feasible upgrade path, save your budget and when the time comes, replace the system with a newer one.

you could upgrade to a Aurora R7 motherboard which can support Intel 8th gen cpu and eligible for Win 11 officially. 8th gen cpu has 6 core compared to 4 core cpu of i7-6700.
the hurdle of such mobo upgrade is Dell proprietary power switch embedded in LED ribbon cable.
I am not sure R5 and R7 power sw pinouts are the same, let alone the rest of LED pinouts.

New computer is the best option. There's little point in upgrading that hardware as newer hardware will provide much better performance.
If you shop around you can find a tower that fits within the $600 price range and provide more performance than an upgrade would.
