Aurora R16, unable to install Windows update KB5063060

Install runs up to 98% and then gives an error that "something went wrong. The the computer uninstalls the update. That requires 2 or 3 reboots. From that point on I can't install any updates without also installing the buggy update KB5063060. How do I get around this problem?

Well This update (KB5063060) is likely a cumulative or security update for Windows 11/10, Well you can try the following:

  • Run Windows Update Troubleshooter
  • Try to  Install KB5063060 Manually from Microsoft Update Catalog
  • Check for Pending Restarts or Failed Updates
  • Clean Boot & Retry the Update
  • Also Check Disk Space & System Date

It's a common problem. I would not try to get it to install, but simply wait until Microsoft brings out an updated version.

See here.

@GauravSyst

I did a clean install. Then I installed all Microsoft updates EXCEPT KB5063060 because it refused to install. I'm ready to tell Alienware that I want my money back.

@Captain Marvel You would have to talk with a Customer Care agent by pressing the get help now button in the lower right corner of this screen to assess options.

Do note this is a widespread problem related to that specific update and has nothing to do with Alienware. Other manufacturers will experience similar issues.

Install stops at 92% and then uninstalls which requires time and two reboots.

Another person here in this group told me the problem was caused by a defective CPU. He said he had the same problem and that Alienware sent a tech to his house to R&R his defective CPU. He said after the R&R he was able to install the above mentioned KB file without any problems.

Please do the same for me.

Have you checked event viewer and/or the CBS.log file?

It is possible the update is failing due to a software conflict or OS issue.

I didn't have any trouble with my Lenovo laptop or my Samsung laptop. Looks like only Dell/Alienware products are affected.
