Aurora R15, SupportAssist broken, Hibernate won't activate

Alienware Update replaced itself with Dell Support Assist, and since then driver/software updates don't work.

While I am happy to leave it alone and just use windows update, there is a critical bios update and a few other things listed on the dell website that should probably be done.

Do other people have the same issue? If so, could you let me know how to get it running? I'm guessing an uninstall/reinstall might be the next step.

If you got rid of support assist and just use windows update, could you also let me know if it's all you need?

I also can't activate the 'hibernate' mode (to put the desktop to sleep rather than shutting down). I think a bios update needs to be done first - I've been trying powercfg.exe /hibernate on into command prompt without success... if anyone has tips on this please let me know!

Wish Dell would make better software for their machines so we don't have to worry about this sort of thing!

There is issue with updating BIOS through Support Assist at this time and Dell is aware of the issue.

If you really need to update your system BIOS, you can update from BIOS boot menu using USB method.  Go here to BIOS page for your system  https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=fxxty&oscode=w2021&productcode=alienware-aurora-r15-desktop , scroll down and expand the installation instructions.  Follow those steps to update your BIOS outside of operating system.

If you prefer to use Windows Update, you can uninstall and get rid of SA.  In the Advanced, Optional Update section, you will find BIOS update from Windows.  Choice is yours.
