Aurora R13, CPU fan replaceable?

Alienware Aurora R13

Alienware Aurora R13

Hey everyone,

is it possible to replace the smart cooling fan on the aurora r13 with another cooler, for example the bequiet pure rock slim 2 or will the bios throw an "cpu_fan not detected"-error like it does with many other aftermarket rear fans?

Yes, it is possible . I recommend a low profile cooler something like the Noctua NH-L9x65, I would just replace the fan with the original one that has an RPM of 4000.

@Real_Boy85

Hi, could you tell us what cooler model are you using the in the image shown. And did u need any 1700 stand off screws to assemble the cooler.

I had dells cryo (CRY...!) liquid cooler and it pump is making annoying noise after 1 year time..

@VinodhR The professor used an Arctic Liquid cooler, I am assuming a liquid freezer II 240 AIO:Arctic

Just double check with him on the model number as they do have different models.

@Vanadiel That is not my liquid cooled R13 in the above photo, and too much time has passed for me to recall to whom to attribute credit. I think the 240mm model you linked is correct. I don't think a 280mm radiator would fit. I don't particularly like the way the tubes come straight out of the pump housing, but there is room in the R13 to make the turn. Interestingly, it has a built-in VRM fan, which I have not seen in other AIO models.

@VinodhR It looks like from the instruction manual that the "standoffs" are created from the backplate mounting screws, O-rings, and spacer nut B for LGA1700 on the bequiet! dark rock pro 4 linked..

@ProfessorW00d I am thinking of maybe throwing in an EK Nucleus 240 AIO on my non-Alienware system. Although I doubt it will make a difference large enough to bother compared to my NH-U12S under normal workloads.

@Vanadiel That looks like a nice one . . . much better engineering on the tubes. If I recall you are in a Lian Li with good air flow, so your Noctua cooler should be a good performer and quiet. Interesting that EKWB does not make a 280mm AIO version . . . 36% more surface area than the 240mm.
