Can I add a 2.5 SSD to an Aurora R13?

Sure can. Install 2.5" SSD

There are 3 SATA connectors: SATA Connectors  8, 9 and 10 in that picture.

Just have to make sure you have a SATA cable handy as apparently as per the service manual it is not supplied with the R13.

Yes, I added one to mine.  The power cable is already there in the lower space, and there is also the plastic slide-in caddy.  You will need to purchase a SATA data cable separately, I would recommend one with an angled end.  Gently bending the caddy sides, slip it over the SSD drive.  Make sure you orient the drive so the connections are facing out when you slide the drive into its slot.  Plug the angled end of the SATA cable into the motherboard (this way it clears the intake fans)(I used connector-9, as 8 already had the factory installed hdd), and the straight end onto the SSD drive, there is plenty of room to still close the case.

If you are asking like that, you should probably get a friend to help you. It's pretty easy to destroy your nice/working computer once you get inside.

If you still want to go-it-alone, I suggest you download and examine the PDF Service Manual and watch some appropriate YouTube videos.

Still waiting on delivery of the R13, I asked because when you go to storage drives as accessory / add on, it only shows M2 and Sata 7200 rpm HD as available. The service manual online only shows M2  Alienware Aurora R13 Service Manual | Dell US
I installed one in my Area 51 no problem. And want to move it to my new R13.
I have since found you tube video showing installation.

1. Still doing this on Auroras in 2022, huh ? What a missed opportunity ... especially since 1tb, 2tb, 4tb 2.5inch SATA-SSDs are perfectly suited for these.

2. Weird. I guess because you can't get one from the factory.

3. Should not be a problem. If you are going to reformat it anyway, since it's got some hours on it, I suggest you go ahead and Over-Provision it by 5-10% (if not done so already).

@GodsEyeMode See this R13 storage support matrix: R13 Storage Support

Just be aware you might need to purchase a SATA cable for the 2.5" SSD, but those can be had from Amazon or other retailer.
