Aurora R12, should I upgrade to 128Gb or 64Gb?

Currently, I have an Aurora R12 with these specs:

CPU: intel i7-11700KF

GPU: GTX 1660 SUPER - I sold the built-in GPU and replaced it with this one

RAM 16Gb

I am using two monitors at 120hz, I want to upgrade to 4-monitor set up later

Question:

1. At the moment, 16GB RAM is quite slow, so I want to upgrade the machine to 128GB or 64Gb. If budget is not my concern, which option should I choose? I am using the machine for real-time data analysis (python, powerBI), excel (multiple sheets, files), and real-time trading. I heard somewhere that maybe 128GB of RAM is not necessary.

2. Please advise which brand/product should I consider since the machine is quite picky

Appreciate any advice

Attach CPU-Z of my current hardware

1.  Although it was quite slow, you managed to run with 16GB of RAM without issue.

2.  Python, PowerBI, large Excel spreadsheet may barely need up to 32GB of memory for heavy usage.

You can verify your current memory usage during workload.  Unused memory is a wasted memory.  Hence the lower capacity 64GB choice was suggested.

You can upgrade with 64GB using Crucial compatible memory.  They are guaranty to work with lifetime support.

@Chino de Oro

Got it. Just another question: should I go for 4x16GB or 2x32GB? From my understanding: the set-up of 4x16GB can take more workload for "the chip handling memory" and if I want to upgrade to 128GB later, I need to buy whole new RAM. Glad if you could help to validate which setup is better for me. Thanks

For open plan upgrade, you can get 2 x 32GB module and you will be able to upgrade to full 128GB later if you run virtual machine and AI learning.

For feasible economic upgrade, you can get 2 x 32GB kit (2x16GB) which has lower cost than 2 x 32GB module.

Either configurations are supported by your R12 system  https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-us/alienware-aurora-r12-desktop/alienware-aurora-r12-setup-and-specifications/memory?guid=guid-e9d2ea83-38a4-431d-803c-96d63c1dbc34&lang=en-us
