Aurora R12, cannot update to BIOS 1.1.28

Hi, I'm not able to update the bios from 1.1.27 to the latest 1.1.28 on the Alienware Aurora R12. When I download the update file from the Dell website and try to click it open, nothing happens. If I try updating through the Alienware Update program, I get a failure message. Do you know the reason why I'm not able to update my bios? I've tried turning everything off in the Windows Security. Help would be very much appreciated, thanks!

It only worked through the flash bios update option by pressing F12 at the startup. Funny, the option did not show when I had the flash drive plugged in, only when no flash drive was plugged in the option appeared. I then inserted the flash drive and clicked the option. The bios then updated to 1.1.28 successfully.

Hi everyone,

The steps below shall help mitigate the issue. As soon as new BIOS updates are available, they will be added to Dell.com/support

Current workaround
:

  1. Workaround:

    • Uninstall the January Windows KB update that corresponds to your system.: KB5050009, KB5050021, or KB5050009 update:

      1. Open Settings
      2. Select Windows Update
      3. Pause the Windows update
      4. Select Update history
      5. Select Uninstall updates
      6. Find the impacted update according to the operating system version used, labeled KB5050009, KB5050021, and KB5049981
      7. Select Uninstall
      8. Restart your computer
      9. Install the BIOS from dell.com/support using the executable file
      10. After a successful BIOS update go back to step c, to enable the Windows update
    • Update the BIOS from a USB stick using the computer pre-boot option
      1. Copy the executable file to external storage (USB flash drive)
      2. Keep the USB connected and restart the computer
      3. Press F12 to enter One-Time Boot Settings (reference Flashing the BIOS from the F12 One-Time Boot Menu)

We kindly ask you to test it and provide your feedback.

I would take a thumb drive and format FAT32 then goto DELL's download site for the R12 and put it on the stick... Reboot hit F12 before/at the BIOS logo screen on reboot I believe and update the BIOS that way.
