Aurora R12 and RTX 5070 crashes

Aurora R12 came with Rtx 3060ti.  Now upgraded to RTX 5070 (MSI ventus oc2).  Getting black screen crashes and sometimes crash with reboot.  Have tried clearing drivers, made sure seated well, made sure power connected well.  It has 1000 watt power supply. Has anyone had a similar problem and figured it out?

one thing I was wondering is it possible I am connecting the power using the wrong 6+2 connectors?  Does anyone know where on the PSU the connectors should

plug into?  There are various labels for the ports on the PSU like R1, R2, etc.  wondering if some of them have lower power than others leading to a low power issue.

the 5070 card seems stable in another PC which I installed to test it out. Thank you in advance.

The black colored ports across the top; R1 thru R6 should be the PCIe connections.

Check the temperatures on the card. R12 is a very compact design...

I verified the gpu is being powered by R5 and R6 so that should be good.  Also temps are good, in the 60s Celsius.  Anyone else having issues with Rtx 50 series on Aurora R12?

@user_edd2e7

I never did find a solution.  Let me know if you figure it out.

I’m not exactly sure which step fixed it, but here’s what I did:

  • I reset Windows and made sure to install the latest BIOS and chipset drivers from this link https://www.dell.com/support/product-details/en-us/product/alienware-aurora-r12-desktop/drivers
  • When I got my RTX 5070 back from the store (they said no issues found), I downloaded DDU and the NVIDIA GPU driver 581.15 (not the Nvidia App)
  • Booted into Safe Mode (Run > msconfig > Safe boot).
  • In Safe Mode, I ran DDU, then shut down.
  • Swapped out the 3060 Ti for the 5070 and powered on (it should still boot into Safe Mode).
  • Installed the NVIDIA 581.15 driver.
  • Disabled Safe Boot in msconfig and restarted.

After running burn tests for a couple of hours and a few gaming, I didn’t get any black screens anymore!

Original issue:

  • Black screen during 3DMark stress tests around 5-7 loop (All stress tests eg. Time Spy, Steel Nomad etc...)
  • Instant black screen in Furmark stress test
  • Black screen after a couple of hours of gaming
