Aurora R12, adding PC3 RAM
I have an Aurora R12 and was wanting to remove the two 4GB 2Rx8 PC3 RAM sticks from my old Alienware X51 R2 and put them in my Aurora. First, are these RAM sticks compatible with my Aurora. Second, do you know of any videos that can simplify the process for me? I had done it once before to my Aurora years ago, added more RAM with no issue but don't remember the entire process.
My PC specs:
Processor 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-11700F @ 2.50GHz (2.50 GHz)
Installed RAM 16.0 GB (15.7 GB usable) -16GB, 2x8GB, DDR4, 3200MHz, XMP
1TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
Thanks!!!

No -- DDR3 cannot be used in the newer system. It won't physically fit into the memory sockets.

@ejn63 Thank you! So I’m assuming any DDR4 3200MHz or 3400MHz. Does the higher MHz make much of a difference?

The CPU controls the memory speed -- RAM faster than 2400 will simply downclock.

@ejn63 Hmm, so I have the wrong ram installed then? I have 3200 MHz. My system does seem a but slow for the specs it has. Games I have well above the recommended don't run so well. This must be why. I'm assuming this is the kit I need: Crucial 32GB Kit (16GBx2) DDR4-2400 UDIMM

The 2400 was in error - the new RAM will run at whatever speed the current RAM does, even if it is capable of running faster (unless you overclock it, which is a take your chances process).

@ejn63 Sorry I’m a bit confused. Are you saying that upgrading my ram would be pointless?

If you're upgrading to get more RAM, that's one thing - and likely worthwhile. If you're upgrading to get higher speed only, that is pointless.

No, not for higher speed only. Just need my PC to run as intended. It stutters and lags on basic applications. When I added ram before I didn’t add enough I think. I believe the 16 GB ram I installed wasn’t enough, probably should’ve went 32 GB ram.
