Alienware desktops are very sensitive about adding any type of parts. If they have not been validated to work you can count on potential undesirable results. Even more so if you are adding more memory while keeping the original memory on the motherboard. Here's a list of the memory that has been validated to work on the R12.

Thank you for the information. I bought 32 gig of the Kingston Fury and installed it. It still would not boot up. I took the OEM memory out and installed the new Kingston memory in and it booted up. So I bought another 32 gig of the same memory and installed it and it would not boot up again, Is there anything else I need to do. I was trying to get a total of 64 gig. there are 4 slots for memory and the specs say it can handle 264 gig of memory.

@wguntersra54893   clear CMOS after every memory configuration change . . . maybe more than once

I found out how to reset CMOS but it still not accept the next 2 sticks of memory which are identical to the first 2 sticks

@wguntersra54893   what is the exact Kingston memory you are installing?

Just hold in the power button for 30 seconds to clear CMOS . . . no need to remove the CR2032 battery. As mentioned previously, you may need to do this several times to finally get a boot up.

nothing i have tried has worked when i put the 2nd set of memory in. I have tried resetting the CMOS over 20 times using all the methods suggested and also the ones found online. it still will not boot. when i take the other 32 g memory out it boots up.

Have you tried changing the pins to do a jump start. It's CLR and CMR on an R8

I tried all of the suggestions and nothing worked. The problem appears to be the mother board. They have put 4 motherboards in the machine and all but one had the same problem. these were supposedly new boards (refurbished).

the last one they sent was a bad processor slot. it is currently at Dell Depot with all the memory cards in it. Hopefully they can figure it out.
