Aurora R11, 3090 owners considering an RTX 5070?
Alienware Aurora R11
I have enjoyed my Aurora R11 3090 Option computer but the videocard (RTX 3090 option) is getting a little old. The main constraint to an upgrade is that the unique videocard installed is 10.5 inches (267 mm) long. (It actually looks like a card a little shorter than 11 inches may work.
Nvidia now has the RTX 5070 which is made at lengths shorter than 10.5 inches. PC Part Picker Shorter than 267 mm
The new power connection in the video card (12V-2x6) can be connected with an adapter to use two 8 pin PCIe cables. New Video Power Connectors
There are a total of four of these 8 pin PCIe connectors that come directly out of the power supply. (This computer was designed for sli) The 5070 comes with an adapter to use two of the 8 pin connectors. The 5090 comes with an adapter that uses four of these connectors. There are a total of four connectors in the computer but that card is way too long to use.
A head to head comparison of an RTX 3090 and an RTX 5070 shows that the 5070 is slightly better. Head to head 3090 to 5070
However the 3090 has DLSS2 which only does super resolution while the 5070 has DLSS4 which has "multiple frame generation". There are numerous articles about how multiple frame generation makes the videocard extremely powerful at games.
It would be cheaper to put this new videocard in than buying a whole new computer. This computer has been great and modernizing the gpu would be nice. Any thoughts of doing this?

Biggest thought is do you need it? If not, save the money.

I was able to purchase an RTX5070. This is shorter than the current card. Installing it required not using the bracket that holds the card in place since this is where the 12V-2x6 connector is located. It increased my Speedway Benchmark from 5103 to 5583. The MFG (multiframe generation) is not that relevant to me since I like First person shooters with multiplayers. The MFG is really nice for single person role play. Overall it was fun to change it up.

@Florida32 Looks good. I would consider routing that GPU power cable same way as the power cable on the very right, to keep it more out of the way of the GPU fans and the exhaust area and intake fan of the case.

Thanks for the comment. I moved the power cables so that the short length of the card would be noticeable. The original 3090 only had one inch of clearance but this has about two. The cables were moved back to a good location. It was a bother to get the card unclipped. Very little clearance. I have noticed on new motherboards that there will be a pushbutton near the card. Push it down and it unclips. Very nice. The 5000 series MFG is amazing. Games are beyond gorgeous. HOWEVER, the lag from the MFG is noticeable. I have settled on running MFG but then having the video settings on low. Simpler but more beautiful images.

@Florida32 Did you have any issues with your monitors going black at first? I upgraded my psu to 850 and gpu to msi 5070 rtx and everything runs great until I run games and then poof my monitors go black.

I do not have that issue. But I have the original power supply.
Have you tried using a benchmark test? Initially set the test for low resolution with minimal settings. See if the machine will run something undemanding. You also could swap out the new PSU for the old. That would be painful to do.
