Aurora R10, shutting off at random

Hey all, been having issues with my R10 for a while now but it’s gotten real bad recently. I noticed maybe 2 months ago everything on my screen would turn off almost like it had actually turned off but when I went to go look, my PC was still on based on the light on the front. It was actually specifically blinking in a strange pattern to obviously indicate something but am unsure. This happened maybe twice or thrice then didn’t happen again after I would disconnect it and drain the power, so I thought nothing of it at the time. However it’s started again recently and now it happens every 5-15 mins of turning it back on, I’ve tried everything I can think of. Draining the power fully, disconnecting all the USBs, adjusting stuff on my PC with the few minutes I do have on it. I’m sure it’s either an overheating issue or power issue but I’m unsure as to why it’s happening now after 4 years of owning it and it seems to inconsistently turn off regardless of if I’m gaming or doing nothing at all. I am just unsure with how to deal with it as it seems a bit beyond my knowledge level. If anyone could be give me hand before I consider seeing a repairer I’d greatly appreciate it! If you need any more details, go ahead.

See here for the service manual, that has a table and explanation of what the blinking light sequence(s) mean.

The light you are looking for is the Alien head light (power button light).

If you count the blinks and the order, you can then use that table to figure out why.

I am thinking that after 4 years you might need to replace the CMOS battery, which is very easy and cheap to do.

@Vanadiel Hey, thanks for the help! Seems that the CMOS battery replacement did the job. Been 2 days now without a single problem Thanks for the help again mate.

@Vanadiel Unfortunately not! Was doing fine but now I’m having the problem again now, but it seems like a different problem maybe? Before I had the same combination of flashes but now I’m getting a different one today, I just don’t know what the old one was. Anyways, now it looks to be 2,1 flashes if I’m reading it correctly which says system board failure. This mean I have to take it to be repaired?

Strangely enough, I unplugged the power cord for about 2 hours and let the power drain. Came back to it just now and it's back to working? Strange.

@qlip27 I have a similar problem and answer I got didn't help, text support is all over the map (too many fingers in the pie), so looks like I'm sitting here with very heavy paper weaight. Maybe we can help each other.

@qlip27

When you say

everything on my screen would turn off almost like it had actually turned off but when I went to go look, my PC was still on based on the light on the front.

does the screen come back on it's own after about 1 minute? Do the outage blinks off and on have random lengths of time?  i.e, On--Off then On-----Off then ON-Off etcetera?

Bought my rig a month ago; opened the box last week - checking return/exchange policy today. For almost $5k it should work out of the box.

Peer support is my last hope.

@Redacted Interesting that we have a similar problem or maybe even same problem. In regards to that one thing I said, to go into detail on what happens typically. When it does the thing, half the time it's either as soon as I turn on my computer, or 1-20 minutes after I turn it on. But when it happens, the screen goes black completely as if it turned off, you can hear the fans going, and the light blinks 2,1 times (suggesting system board failure as previously mentioned). It doesn't however flash the monitor on and off at any point, but it does seem to stay on a black screen on the main one when the PC conks it for like 3 seconds after the screen goes off but that's it. The only thing that stays on is the PC and the flashing lights on it.

I've managed to find a roundabout way to use my PC in the meanwhile. Letting the power drain by unplugging the cord, holding the power button for a bit then leaving it for like 5 minutes or even 2 hours seems to be solving the issue temporarily. I've noticed it seems to occur most often in the mornings after I wake up, so I just leave the cord out and head to work. Most times it's fine when I plug it back in when I'm back home.

Might just look at seeing a friend of mine or even a repairer because this seems far beyond my reach. Good luck with yours. I'll keep this thread updated if I find a solution or anything.

Could be a bad PSU, but it will require some testing to troubleshoot further.

If I remember correctly the R10 does not have any software voltage monitoring available, so you will need some external tool to measure the voltages. 12 Volt rail could be the issue if it drops below minimum ATX spec.
