Aurora R10, how to Interface to the Panasonic Mini DV?

I need to connect my daughters Panasonic MiniDV camcorder to my Aurora R10 Ryzen addition. The Panasonic does not have any RCA jacks, it only has the DV jack and my PC does not have a FireWire port, or even a lightning port. I only have a couple old precious tapes to transfer, of when her husband was alive and of their children. Does anyone know if it is even possible to connect these two for AV transfer and if so how? I would truly appreciate it, there are many articles saying you can use a USB port and then there are people saying you can not interface USB with the DV. Also I am told that the Motherboard on this Aurora does not have a slot to accommodate an IEEE 1394 Card, could the PCIE x8 on this motherboard work?

Hi

Hope this helps.....

Some Panasonic MiniDV camcorders, such as the NV-GS25, PV-GS35, and NV-GS35, can transfer video over USB.

To use USB transfer on compatible models:

  • Put the camcorder in Play mode (not PC mode)
  • Select USB FUNCTION → MOTION DV in the camera menu.
  • Ensure your computer's privacy settings allow camera access for desktop apps1he USB transfer method works with Windows 7 and Windows 10.

Not all Panasonic models support this feature. For example, the PV-GS27, PV-GS60, PV-GS120, and PV-GS200 cannot send DV over USB.

Do you have any more details on the models concerned please.

Full Dell and Panasonic if possible.

I was just informed that I can use the one available PCIE x8 slot to plug a IEEE 1394 card in that is designed for a PCIE x1 slot. I will try that and see how it works.

  1. Use video capture software like Windows Movie Maker or WinDV to transfer the video from your camcorder to your computer.
  2. If you encounter audio issues, such as tinny or metallic sound, try using WinDV and manually control the tape playback on the camcorder while capturing with WinDV.

Remember to handle the FireWire connection carefully, as inserting the plug incorrectly can damage the port on your camcorder.

ann_droid I don't see your reply about the software to use that was in my email. Anyway, can I use the OBS studio software for that? I have it installed and use it for my old VSH transfers.

Hi

Well the options seem to be the A/V cable it probably came with to Video Recorder.

PC Connection with the DV Interface Cable

A video clip can be transferred directly to your PC (personal computer) via a DV Interface Cable
(optional) using products and software from a number of video editing software companies.
Using products from video editing software companies allows you to capture and edit video clips using the DV Interface.  Panasonic DVC are OHCI compliant and  should have no problem working with any OHCI compliant FireWire Card/Video — Editing software package.
Otherwise take it to a professional transfer shop.
