Your system supports NVMe Gen 3 SSD. The 980 Pro, a Gen 4 SSD, is backward compatible but will run at Gen 3 speeds, that is at roughly 3600 MB/s. You can probably save a bit of money by going to a Samsung 980 (not the Pro version) Gen 3 M.2 SSD.

Yes. Just remember that it either needs a new installation of Windows, or a transfer (clone) from the current drive.

I would currently hold off on Samsung 980 SSD's until the firmware issues have been sorted out.
980 Pro SSD failures
Seems to be a firmware issue, but you never know. There's other manufacturers available that have equally good SSD's available.

This is a good callout, but it's only the 980 Pros, right? I just wanted to make sure I didn't miss more news on this.
It looks like JOcean suggested the normal Samsung 980 (non-Pro) due to the Pro being limited to Gen 3 on this system.

Yes, the Pro version and only certain firmware versions by the looks of it. But others have reported strange behavior with Samsung Magician, the software to keep your firmware up to date etc...
So in my opinion, it's best to wait a few weeks until this is all sorted out.
Especially since the 990 Pro is also reporting issues now: 990 Pro rapid drop in drive health
