Area-51 R4, BIOS not installing
Bios download but windows 11 gives error
I then disabled core protection and rebooted and tried again. It no longer gives the above message and simply states:
When I run the alienware update the bios never downloads and all I see the following
windows 11, all win11x64 updates as of date of this post
After 30 minutes I tried to cancel and was told it cannot be canceled.
Hopefully when I reboot the system will not be bricked.
Can I extract the ROM from the executable and updates the bios from flash drive? I have used 7-zip to do that on some HP systems.

Windows 11 drivers are listed here: Area 51 R4
You will need as bootable USB stick and follow these instructions to install the latest BIOS version.
Updating the BIOS from DOS with UEFI boot mode enabled (Non-Windows users, Load Legacy Option Disabled)
Note 1: Before updating the BIOS, ensure that you suspend BitLocker encryption on a BitLocker-enabled system. If BitLocker is not enabled on your system, you can ignore this step. For information about how to disable BitLocker, see How to Enable or Disable BitLocker with TPM in Windows at support.dell.com.
Note 2: Do not turn off the power or interrupt the BIOS update process during the update.
Note 3: Your system requires a restart after installing the BIOS. The restart can be deferred but must be completed to ensure that the update is installed.
Installation
1. Copy the downloaded file to a bootable DOS USB drive.
2. Power on the system and then go to BIOS Setup by pressing the F2 key.
3. Go to General > Boot Sequence > Boot > Boot List Option.
4. Change UEFI to Legacy of Boot List Option.
5. Go to Exit > Save Changes and reboot system.
6. Press F12 and then select USB Storage Device and boot to the DOS prompt.
7. Run the file by typing the file name.
8. The system restarts automatically and updates the BIOS at the system startup screen. After the BIOS update is complete, the system restarts again.
9. Go to BIOS Setup by pressing the F2 key and go to General > Boot Sequence > Boot > Boot List Option.
10. Change Legacy to UEFI Boot Option.
11. Go to Exit > Save Changes and reboot the system.
As someone above already mentioned: only update the BIOS if it contains features you require, or fixes an issues you are experiencing. If your system is working fine there's no need to update the BIOS, and a bad BIOS update can brick your motherboard.

Unable to edit post so I am adding extra into here
Attempting to execute Alienware_Area_51_R4_2.0.7 causes the driver "amifldrv64.sys" to be created:
The event viewer logs the following error on every install attmpt:
I brought up properties for both of those files and looked at the digital signatures
AFAICT nothing has expired. Was the certificate revolked?
Anyway, I went and installed the certificate and tried again and got the same error.
I also brought up BIOS using F12 and looked at how I could load the bios from my USB flash but there was no obvious way to load the bios. The mouse did not work, I had to use the TAB key to select various fields. None of the following seems to be applicable to loading a bios outside of windows 11.

Do you have a very strong reason to update R4 bios? One community user lost all the chassis LED lights after update. It may be buggy. If your R4 works fine now, better stay put. Not worth the headache it might bring.
the more you struggle with unreasonable hurdles in bios update which ought to be simple straightforward, the more risk of doing it wrong inadvertently and bricking the motherboard.

I suspect the problem is windows 11 and the bios was tested in 10
FWIW, I cannot disable the Blocklist even after following Microsoft's instructions.

It's telling me that there is a password on my BIOS. Which is weird since I have not touched my BIOS settings at all. So unless this is something that the 22H2 update did, I don't understand it at all.
But the computer is working fine and so rather than try to force the update and really break something, I'll stand pat until a later version is released.

I have the same issue with the r13 on win 11. (New Bios 1.8.0)
First the freeze message with the programm compatibility, and after that just wrong version.
Unable to intall bios via win.
I thought maybe windows needs repair so i gone trough all "dism" repair options.
I also tried dell update tool.
Used a normal usb drive, formated in "fat32" restart and hit f12 on startup.
Go to usb flash and done it myself.
Worked like a charm, but odd because previous updates worked just fine under win11.

I will try this method. I originally assumed the bios app was a windows app. Normally I used rufuis and boot freedos to upgrade rom bios files and a batch file runs the upgrade.
I believe I found the original problem. The certification for the AMI driver has expired. amifldrv64.sys expired in 2017. Dell needs to update the certificate in the driver that is included in the executable bios. Note that amifldrv64.sys is created every time the bios update app is run. I tried disabling driver signature checking but that did not help.

It was not necessary to switch to legacy. I just hit F12 and selected that bios executable file and press the enter key to install. Windows 11 Pro 22H2

Upgrading the bios was a disaster. My guess is the internal cache of the CPU was disabled. Unable to download grade bios. Going to make a separate post about the problem.
