Area-51 AAT2250, RTX 5090 FE install, PSU power connector compatibility question

I have an AAT2250 with a 5080. My PSU has 2x 12-pin + 4-pin GPU connectors. I want to install a third party RTX 5090 FE — what adapter do I need to connect the 12V-2x6 connector?

You don’t actually need a “special” adapter for that setup—the NVIDIA RTX 5090 Founders Edition uses the newer 16-pin 12V-2x6 connector, so what matters is how you get to that from your PSU. Since your PSU only has dual 12-pin (+4) GPU outputs (likely proprietary or older PCIe-style cables), your options are: use the included 4×8-pin (or equivalent) to 16-pin adapter that comes with the 5090, or better yet, get a native PSU-specific 12V-2x6 cable made for your exact power supply model.

The second option is strongly recommended because adapters add extra connection points and are more prone to overheating or failure especially on a ~575W card like the 5090 . if your PSU supports a direct 12V-2x6 cable, use that; if not, use the official adapter not a random third-party one, make sure all plugs are fully seated and avoid tight cable bends to reduce risk.

Update: I identified my PSU — Dell L1500EPM-00 made by Lite-On Electronics, DP/N 014H71, 1500W Platinum ATX12VO.

According to my manual, the PSU has two 12-pin + 4-pin connectors for the graphics card. I need a cable or adapter solution that goes from these two 12-pin + 4-pin PSU connectors to a single 16-pin 12V-2x6 connector for an RTX 5090 Founders Edition.

Does such a cable exist from Dell or a third party? Or is there another recommended solution for powering a third party RTX 5090 FE in the AAT2250?

@redxps630 Thank you for the followup!

The 46PJ6 doesn't appear to be available through normal retail channels, at least that I can find. Where can this part be obtained — is it orderable directly from Dell Parts, or does it need to be sourced elsewhere? And to confirm my understanding: with two PSU outputs I would need two 46PJ6 dongles to get four 8-pin connectors for the 5090 FE's included adapter, correct?
Thanks again!

Dell Chris M2 may know how to order this from Dell which may need parts supervisor approval

When new Dell psu has only two 12+4 pin and zero 6/8 pin, to get 4 x 8 pin you need to convert both 16 pin.

Another user report

Hello, my Pro Max Tower T2 FCT2250 with 1500W psu came with two 12pin gpu power cables (each 12 pin cable splits to 8pin and 6pin at PSU side)

this may be the new Dell 1500w V2 psu?

We ordered a Pro Max Tower T2 FCT2250 without a discrete GPU and it came with two 12VHPWR (16-pin) GPU power cables.

We want to install an older GPU that has two 8-pin power sockets.

@redxps630

"Thank you for the clarification — that confirms my AAT2250 has the Version 1 PSU with two 12+4 pin outputs requiring conversion.

@Dell Chris M2 — I've been advised you may be able to assist with ordering the 46PJ6 dongle through Dell. I need two of these to convert my AAT2250's two 12+4 pin PSU outputs to four 8-pin connectors for an RTX 5090 Founders Edition upgrade. This part doesn't appear to be available through normal retail channels.

Could you help me order two units of DP/N 46PJ6, or point me to the correct process for obtaining them? My system service tag is available if needed for parts verification."

Dell part 46PJ6 is not sold on the Dell website nor can Dell Spare Parts sell it. It shows as "For sale: No" in the Dell tool =

Dell part 46PJ6 was never validated for the Area-51 AAT2250. It shows as validated with =
Aurora ACT1250
Tower Plus EBT2250

Dell Support even with manager approval could not give you 46PJ6 because you have the non-supported Area-51 AAT2250.

You will have to search on the web for 3rd part cabling/converters to use with that third party RTX 5090 FE.

@CRT3 , if you are still looking for graphics power adapter, check out this power cable dongle from Dell

https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/graphic-power-cable-dongle-12-4-pin-to-dual-6-2-pin/apd/470-bfhf/pc-accessories

The problem is, there is no picture of the product and your computer is not listed in the compatibility list.  Just trying to help you out.  Purchase it at your own risk.
