Alienware Area-51 Desktop – Persistent Low-Frequency Noise & Shutdown Issue Within First Month
Hi everyone,
I recently purchased a Dell Alienware Area-51 desktop and within less than a month of usage, I've encountered two major issues. I’d appreciate any insights or suggestions from the community.
Issue 1: Persistent Low-Frequency Noise
The desktop emits a cyclical low-frequency “humming” noise — something like “hmm... hmm... hmm...” — that sounds like vibration or resonance.
This noise has persisted even after a fan replacement.
It occurs even when the PC is placed in a completely open and ventilated area, so airflow blockage or case vibration seems unlikely.
The noise only happens at low fan speeds. At high speeds, the fans are quiet.
Dell's diagnostic tools report no issues with the fans.
I have another identical Alienware desktop that does not produce this noise, so it doesn’t appear to be a design issue.
Issue 2: Unable to Shut Down (Post Fan Replacement)
Before the fan was replaced, shutdown worked normally.
After the replacement, the system powers off and then restarts automatically — it won’t stay shut down.
BIOS and power settings have been checked and do not appear to be the cause.
Support Experience:
Although I purchased the Pro Support package, the technical support I’ve received so far has been heavily script-driven, with no real troubleshooting beyond repeating standard diagnostics.
Has anyone else experienced similar issues with noise or shutdown after a fan replacement? Any suggestions on how to resolve this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
