Alienware Alpha r2 won’t turn on
So the other day I was playing a game and my computer completely shut down. I thought it maybe overheated so I left it off for a few hours, when I came back it still would not turn back on. I unplugged all the usb ports disconnected the monitor and unplugged the power cord and did a drain when i plugged the power cord back into the wall, the blue light turned on but as soon as it plugged into the computer the blue light would turn off and the computer still won’t turn on.
Any idea what this might be?

thank you for replying,
Assuming it would need to be replaced, how would I go about that, would I be able to bring it into a shop? I don’t really have any experience with computers

Hi @jorusmty we don't see normally see Alienware Alpha Gaming Console posts in the Alienware Laptop forum.
The power cord light going out when plugging in, suggests that console power socket is damaged and should be replaced.

The boards look like they start around $150 (used, as they will all be). There's one on EBay for $140 at the moment. It's likely you can simply change the board yourself, but if not - any independent, local computer shop (choose one that charges by the hour rather than the job) can replace the board for whatever an hour's labor is in your location.

You have a power fault somewhere in the system. Since the power adapter LED comes on and goes out when you connect the system, chances are that means you have a faulty system board.

The power socket is part of the system board - while a shop can probably replace it, the cost will be as much or more than a replacement system board will be.

Thank you, unfortunately they don’t ship to Canada. I’ll keep looking but thank you again for all your help.

Hi @jorusmty not sure how much diagnostic work is involved to track down the fault. Try the Dell Computer Does Not Start - Interactive Support Agent. Is the power cord plug damaged?

Do yourself a favor and buy a 330W power brick.
I would bet its the brick that died not the motherboard.

If that does not fix it then the cpu fan is not spinning so it shuts down due to overheating.
