Writing a Resume? Give it some TASK!
A while ago I was reflecting on what really makes a resume stand out. With the rise of technology rooted in recruitment processes, I wanted to have a surefire for my resume to be the strongest it can be. How, you may ask? With an acronym I made called TASK!
Tailor your resume: This has been said a lot but it can't be said enough-- ensure to include words and skills you have that are listed on the job description itself. Since there are a lot of AI scanning tools that filter resumes based on keywords, it's important to include these!
Advocate for yourself: Don't sell yourself short! Use action words and consistently refer to skills / tools you used when writing descriptions on your resume. A lot of people tend to underestimate their strengths or feel uncomfortable stating them, so be objective! Pretend you're writing it for your friend instead of yourself-- how would you highlight their skills? As I learned from Soar with MENTOR Cohort 8, "you're not boasting, you're just stating a fact."
Short and sweet: Keep your resume from 1 to 1.5 pages. On average, recruiters only spend about 6-7 seconds looking at resumes, so make it count! In your descriptions, keep it brief but impactful using the XYZ formula: accomplished [X] + as measured by [Y] + by doing [Z].
Know yourself: Now, this one may sound a little weird, but it's highly underrated. It is so important to refresh yourself on all of your accomplishments! Have a longer resume / CV on the side and for each position, take key experiences that are relevant to the job to add on your shorter, tailored resume. Also, once you get past the the resume review, you get to the interview! So, make sure you refresh what's on your resume before heading in and have additional key talking points ready to wow them!
I hope you find this helpful! 😊

Love this framework! TASK is such a simple yet powerful way to break down resume writing. ‘Advocate for yourself’ really stood out to me. It's so easy to undersell our strengths, but shifting perspective makes a huge difference! Thank you for sharing this! 🤩
