XPS 15 9510 - 4TB SSD recommendation
I'm looking for recommendations to install a second 4TB PCIe M.2 SSD into a XPS 15 9510. According to DELL technical support the following devices should technically work:
- ADATA XPG SX8100 4TB, M.2
- PNY XLR8 CS3040 4TB, M.2
- Corsair MP400 4TB, M.2
- Sabrent Rocket Q 4TB, M.2
The question to the gentle community is, which of these devices would work best in terms of thermal issues and performance with a ~75% filled disk?
Do you have any experience or probably other recommendations?

I do not know what the friendly Dell tech told you, but as far as I know, only 2 TB Nvme SSDs are supportet.
Please check with your manual. I refer to the manual of my XPS 9500:

Danke, Chang! Das Manual zum XPS 15-9510 sagt an gleicher Stell bis 4TB, was auch der DELL Support bestätigt hat. Alle 4 genannten SSDs passen in den Slot des 9510.
Es wird wohl auf ein Experiment hinauslaufen...

Hallo!
War Dein Experiment erfolgreich? Scheinbar geht ja jede nvme vom typ 2280 mit pcie 3.0 oder 4.0, ich mache mir etwas Sorgen wegen der Hitzeentwicklung, in meinem PC werden die Dinger recht schnell recht warm.
Auf reddit ist ein thread, in dem jemand einen passenden head spreader geposted hat - sollte der fehlen fuer den 2. Slot. Aber ich brauche erstmal einen torx Nr. 5 - dann geht's weiter.
Seltsam auch, was Dell im user manual sagt (1 slot 2230 und ein slot 2280) aber im service manual sind es einfach 2x2280 slots. etwas inkonsistent...
Und ja. die Uebersetzungs-KI von Dell ist gruselig.. sowohl ins Deutsche als auch ins Niederlaendische.

just to clarify and not leave an open question here - I opened the laptop and found 2x full size 2280 M.2 slots there.
installed a Samsung SSD and it works. Now just to find the right SSD heat spreader, the left and the right one look different so make sure you order the proper one
I did not buy a 4TB model, though. too expensive for an "experiment" - as they are not officially sold by Dell (yet) but usually samsung EVO is never a bad idea so maybe next black friday I wil try.
For now 2 x 1TB is more than enough. Thank you for this post

So for anyone who is looking to get a second SSD - get a heat spreader, this will also get you the screw to fix it in place. (there is no screw present in the laptop slot!)
The "left" heat spreader (first SSD) looks like this
