Configuration
What happened to Dell?? I remember a time, when you could go the Dell site and configure your own laptop. Today all is preconfigured and you only have choices that dont really matter.
For example:
Ideally I am looking for a 16 inch screen (can be 2-in-1, touch/-notouch), ideally Ryzen AI Hx370-375 CPU (which is not available at all), 32-64GB RAM (ideally with 2 bars), min 4TB SSD, Swiss keyboard...
The closest I get is the Precision 7680 with...
- no choice of RAM whatsoever (1 bar 32gb fixed)
- no choice for GPU (the given one is not too bad, though)
- lots of choices for Extended Technologies Partner Solutions (which I dont care about)
- no choice for the display (only FHD 60Hz no touch available)
- no choice for primary storage
- good choice for secondary storage (additional 4TB available for 1k CHF - which is ridiculous)
- etc....
Long story short: I can only choose for the things I dont care... at a price of 4.2k CHF
Plus: many of the basic devices have 512 GB SSD - in many cases without an upgrade option, which is ridiculous in todays environment, and considering that storage does not cost much anymore...
I had bought Dell laptops for 20 years, because I always could configure it the way I want it. Obviously these times have passed. I gonna need a replacement soon, but I assume it will be a different supplier... sorry to say, cause in general I was happy with the devices I had so far...
